The History of Coldstream

Coldstream has existed on the northern banks of the Tweed for many centuries.
It has many ties to the past, most notably to the Battle of Flodden (1513) and is world famous for its regiment, the Coldstream Guards.

Coldstream was described by John Bartholomew in his Gazetteer of the British Isles, (1887), thus:

"Coldstream, par. and town (police burgh), S. Berwickshire, on river Tweed, 13½ miles SW. of Berwick-upon-Tweed by rail and 62 miles SE. of Edinburgh -- par., 8534 ac. (214 water), pop. 2561; vil., pop. 1616; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. The Coldstream Guards, the second oldest corps in the British army, were raised here by General Monk in 1659-60."
