Local Attractions
There are many interesting things to do and places to see in the countryside around Coldstream and in the town itself.
For those who like history, the area is full of interesting visits with the Border Abbeys at Jedbugh, Kelso, Dryburgh and Melrose within easy reach, with many other historical sites to be found in this much fought over part of the country. The site of the battle of Flodden, at the village of Branxton in Northumberland is only 4 miles away from Coldstream, and there are other sites of military and strategic importance in the Borders.
For fishermen the Tweed is literally on our doorstep, with fishing at other rivers and reservoirs in the area also to be found.
If your hobby is bird-watching, the ideal spot is the nature reserve at St Abbs Head. These spectacular cliffs are home to home to thousands of guillemots, kittiwakes and razorbills, as well as hundreds of shags, fulmars and herring gulls.
For those who enjoy simple sightseeing there are many beautiful locations to visit, in the small towns and villages in the Borders and also in the hillsides and sea shores.
For the seasoned walker, Coldstream makes a good base for walking St Cuthbert's Way, from Melrose to Holy Island (Lindisfarne). The Southern Upland Way from the west coast of Scotland also finishes in Berwickshire in the village of Cockburnspath, 26 miles from Coldstream.
There are many good golf courses in the Borders, with the excellent course at the Hirsel Golf Club in the town of Coldstream itself.
There is also plenty scope for cycling, horseriding, shooting and hunting, making East Braes a first rate base for all types of holiday.
